BP helping the travel industry recycle their plastic brochure wrap
With the environment and reduction of single use plastic a hot topic across the media worldwide, BP Travel Marketing by Menzies Distribution are taking action to help reduce the amount of plastic generated by the travel industry.
Working with tour operators including; Gold Media and Travel 2, Hurtigruten, Intrepid, Norwegian Cruise Line and travel industry magazine, TTG Media, BP Travel Marketing by Menzies Distribution have launched a trial recycling scheme. Running for two to three months the trial, which is free for travel agents, will commence in December 2019.
150 travel agents in the South East will receive recycling bins to keep in store rooms and fill with shrink-wrapping and brochure wrap from any brochure packs and single brochures they receive. The bins will contain a recyclable plastic bag that the wrapping will go into. The bags will be collected and replaced on a weekly basis and disposed of using BP’s current existing recycling process.
Steve Martin, General Manager, BP Travel Marketing by Menzies Distribution said, “Our aim is to get a plastic brochure wrap recycling bin into every travel agent. The shrink-wrapping and brochure wrap that we use is all made from recyclable material which makes it easier to dispose of responsibly. Once the trial has been concluded and we have analysed the results, we will aim to role the scheme out nationally.”
